Cancellation Policy – College of Charleston Youth 420 Sailing Program

The safety and well-being of all participants in the College of Charleston Youth 420 Sailing Program are our highest priorities. As sailing is an outdoor, weather-dependent sport, participants and their families should be aware that classes may be canceled due to weather or environmental conditions that are deemed unsafe or unsuitable for on-water instruction.

Weather-Related Cancellations

Classes may be canceled at any time due to inclement weather. This includes, but is not limited to, the following conditions:

- High winds above safe operational limits for youth sailors

- Lightning or thunder in the vicinity of the sailing area
- Severe heat or heat index values exceeding safe exposure thresholds
- Unseasonably cold temperatures that may affect safety or performance

- Heavy rainfall or reduced visibility

- Any other weather or water-related hazards that the College of Charleston Sailing staff deem inappropriate for safe sailing

The decision to cancel will be made solely by the College of Charleston Sailing staff, based on real-time assessments and professional judgment, with participant safety as the guiding factor.

Notification Process

Efforts will be made to notify parents/guardians of cancellations in a timely manner via email, text message, or the designated communication platform used for the program. However, due to the unpredictability of weather, cancellations may occur on short notice, including same-day or during-session determinations.

*No Make-Up Classes or Refunds

Due to the seasonal and structured nature of the program, make-up sessions will not be offered for classes canceled due to weather. Additionally, no refunds or credits will be issued for weather-related cancellations. Participants and guardians acknowledge that a portion of the program may be subject to such interruptions, and enrollment is accepted with this understanding.

While every effort will be made to maximize on-water instruction, safety will never be compromised. When possible, on-land or classroom-based instruction may be offered as an alternative if a session is canceled but participants are already on site.

By enrolling in the Youth 420 Sailing Program, participants and their guardians agree to the terms outlined in this cancellation policy and understand the inherent limitations of outdoor, weather-dependent programming.
